January 15, 1999 Interstate 35, Texas Trooper
seizes largest amount black tar heroin in DPS history
A Department of Public Safety trooper who pulled
over a vehicle during a routine traffic stop recovered 201 pounds of marijuana and 3.1 pounds of black tar
heroin - the largest amount of black tar heroin that a DPS trooper has seized during a routine traffic
stop.
A trooper stopped the pickup truck last Monday at
9:55 p.m. northbound on Interstate 35 near the 221 mile-marker just south of Austin. The truck's license
plate light was burned out.
The driver consented to a vehicle search, which
revealed the marijuana and the black tar heroin. Both had been concealed in a propane tank on the back of the
truck.
Value of the black tar heroin is estimated to be a
minimum of $250,000.
