May 18, 2001 Okaloosa, Florida Horacio Alvarez-Huerta Jr was arrested with 3 kilos of
cocaine
An investigation head by the Okaloosa County Drug
Task Force has resulted in the seizure of three kilos of Cocaine, $13,000 cash, and a 2001 Ford F-250 pickup
truck, and the arrest of a Mexican national on Federal drug
charges.
Held without bond pending a detention hearing in
Federal Court is Horacio Alvarez-Huerta, Jr., age 28 (date of birth 3-13-73), a resident
alien from Reynosa, Mexico, who lists San Juan, Texas, as his US residence. He faces Federal charges of
Possession of Cocaine and Conspiracy to Distribute Cocaine.
Earlier this month, the Okaloosa County Drug Task
Force developed information about Alvarez-Huerta's alleged involvement in the importation of Cocaine from
Texas and Mexico into Okaloosa County and elsewhere in northwest Florida and south Alabama. The Escambia
County Sheriff's Office, The Baldwin County, Alabama Drug Task Force, and the Drug Enforcement Administration
(DEA) assisted in an investigation that led to an undercover purchase of three kilograms (6.6 pounds) of
cocaine in the parking lot of a supermarket on Old Gulf Beach Highway in southwest Escambia County on the
evening of May 17 at which time Alvarez-Huerta was taken into custody. The three kilos of cocaine were taken
into evidence and the vehicle used to deliver the drug was
seized.
Agents then searched a trailer in Foley, Alabama,
where Alvarez-Huerta had been residing in recent days. Paraphernalia and $13,000 cash were taken into
evidence at that location.
