June 03, 2003 Lee County, Alabama Trooper makes record brown powder heroin seizure on Interstate
85
An Alabama State Trooper seized 24 pounds (aprox.
11 kilos) of brown powder heroin after a traffic stop on northbound Interstate 85 in Lee County. The seizure
occurred after a traffic stop on a Chevrolet Malibu. The occupants of the vehicle were both females,
Lucia Chavez-Flores (31 years old) and Maria Elena Andrade (33 years old)
and were traveling from Laredo, Texas and in route to New York. Both females face federal charges of heroin
possession with intent to distribute. A state trooper canine and Opelika police officers assisted in the
seizure. This is the largest heroin seizure in Alabama State Police history.
