Gregory David of Quebec arrested during outbound inspection with $42,000
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and
inspectors from U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) seized approximately $42,000 and arrested
Gregory David of St. Regis, Quebec. David was caught in an outbound operation at the Massena
port of entry.
During the outbound inspection, David and three
other passengers all stated that they had no large amounts of currency to declare. The vehicle was referred
to secondary inspection where ICE agents discovered a plastic bag containing approximately $9,000 in U.S.
currency hidden under the front passenger seat. ICE and CBP agents subsequently discovered an additional
$32,000 on Gregory David's person. A small quantity of marijuana was also found inside the
vehicle.
"The recent increase in currency and marijuana
seizures at and between the ports of entry can be attributed to the cooperative work being performed by ICE
and CBP officers," said Buffalo Special Agent in Charge Peter J. Smith. "These hard working
special agents and inspectors are dedicated to trying to dismantle smuggling operations in the northern
areas."
The U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of New
York will prosecute David for violations that include failure to declare currency. The investigation is
continuing by Massena ICE agents.
