Troopers find 122 pounds of marijuana in vehicle after a pursuit
Nebraska State Patrol troopers uncovered 122 pounds
of marijuana after a short pursuit on I-80 near Lincoln. The marijuana was discovered in five large bundles
in the trunk of a 1995 Oldsmobile Cutlass, with California plates.
The Monday, July 4, 2005, incident started on the
west edge of Lincoln around 1:23 p.m. when a trooper attempted to stop the eastbound car for speeding and
following too closely. Despite repeated attempts by the trooper, the driver of the vehicle refused to pull
over. Stop sticks were used to deflate the vehicles passenger side tires near the North 27th Street overpass.
About a half mile later, the driver pulled his car onto the shoulder of the Interstate, and jumped out of the
moving vehicle. The car traveled a short distance before coming to a stop in the south ditch of
I-80. The driver was taken into custody without further
incident.
The driver, an illegal immigrant, has not been
identified. He was lodged in the Lancaster County jail on charges of Possession of Marijuana with Intent to
Deliver and Felony Flight to Avoid Arrest.
