850 balloons of heroin seized after the searching a residence in Austin

On August 29, 2006 the Austin Police Department Narcotics Conspiracy Unit seized 850 balloons of heroin after serving a search warrant at 8708 Dittmar Oaks in Austin. At the residence Johnny Ruiz Jr., age 26, was arrested and charged with Possession of Heroin with the intent to distribute. He was later taken to the custody of the United States Marshals. Packaged inside the balloons was a total of six ounces of heroin. Packaging heroin in balloons is something done by drug trafficker so they can swallow the heroin filled balloons and avoid detection and arrest.
