Trooper seizes more than 477 pounds of marijuana during traffic stop on I-80
A Saturday, December 9, 2006, traffic stop on
Interstate 80, led to the discovery of just under 478 pounds of marijuana. The stop occurred around 8:30
p.m., on east bound I-80, near the Hershey Interchange in Lincoln County.
A trooper stopped a green 2002 GMC pickup, because
the left head light was out. The back of the pickup was covered by a hard plastic cover. When the trooper
asked to view the contents of the pickup the driver opened the rear tailgate. In the bed of the pickup were
18 individually wrapped bundles of marijuana with a total weight of 477.6 pounds.
The driver of the pickup 42-year-old Juan
Hernandez, of Glendale Heights, Illinois and a passenger in the pickup 45-year-old Bernardo
Reyes, also of Glendale Heights, Illinois were taken into custody. Both men were lodged in the
Lincoln County Jail, each on a charge of Possession with Marijuana with Intent to
