Gracielo Gardea Carrasco and others extradited to the US from Mexico
In a joint effort by both the Mexican Government
and the US Government, on February 5th 2009 Osiel Cárdenas Guillén (aka "Matamigos") of the
Gulf Cartel was extradited to the United States, along with Cárdenas Guillén. Several other were extradited
such as Gilberto Higuera Guerrero (aka "Gil") of the Arrellano-Félix cartel, Ismael
Higuera Guerrero (aka "Mayel") of the Arrellano-Félix cartel, Hector Palma Salazar
(aka "Güero") of the Cartel Chapo Guzmán-Güero Palma, Gilberto Salinas Doria or
Gilberto Garza García (aka "Güero Gil") of the "Juarez Cartel", José Alberto Marquez
Esqueda or Francisco Javier Moreno Molinas (aka "Bat") of the "Arellano-Félix
Cartel", Gracielo Gardea Carrasco of the "Cartel Los Tres de la Sierra", Miguel Ángel
Arriola Márquez, of the "Chapo Guzmán Cartel" and Saul Saucedo Chaides, (aka "Ingeniero") of the "Chapo
Guzman Cartel". All were convicted of drug trafficking. Gracielo Gardea Carrasco is charged with taking more
the 60 tons of marijuana into the US and also for having weapons that are exclusive only for the military.
Also extradited were Efraín González Cisneros and Alicia González Cisneros for drug trafficking, Consuelo
Tomasa Félix Carreto Valencia for assualt; Richard Mat Wayne and Carlos Villanueva
García for homicide and Juan Ramón Morales Rodríguez for kidnapping and sexual
assault.
The now extradited Osiel Cárdenas Guillén, Gilberto
Higuera Guerrero, Ismael Higuera Guerrero, Héctor Palma Salazar, José Alberto Marquez Esqueda (aka Francisco
Javier Moreno Molinas), Saul Saucedo Chaides, Gilberto Salinas Doria (aka Gilberto Garza Garcia) y Miguel
Ángel Arriola Márquez were all leaders of criminal organizations that have brought a wave of violence into
Mexico.
