Troopers find 7 kilos in a truck during a traffic stop on the Ohio Turnpike

Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers seized 7 kilos of cocaine, valued at $700,000, during a traffic stop yesterday on the Ohio Turnpike in Lucas County. The suspect will be arraigned today in Maumee Municipal Court on felony charges associated with the case.The driver, Carlos E. Perez, 24, of Sonora, Mexico, was charged possession of cocaine and trafficking in cocaine, both first-degree felonies.A trooper stopped the 2001 GMC Sierra with Illinois registration for a following too close violation westbound on the Ohio Turnpike near milepost 57 in Springfield Township, Lucas County at 2:09 p.m. yesterday. An Ohio State Highway Patrol drug-detection canine alerted to the vehicle. A probable cause search revealed 7 kilos of cocaine.  The suspect was incarcerated in the Lucus County Justice Center in Toledo. The vehicle is pending state forfeiture.
