Drug smuggler arrested at airport with 600 grams of heroin
A 47-year-old alleged internal drug courier is
expected to appear in a Sydney court today charged with trying to bring more than half a kilogram of illegal
drugs into Australia.
The woman, believed to be from Vietnam, arrived at
Sydney International Airport on Friday morning on a flight from Ho Chi Minh City. The woman was observed,
stopped and questioned by Customs officers soon after her arrival.
Australian Federal Police agents were called in and
took the woman to a Sydney hospital.
Scans revealed the woman was concealing three
packages in her stomach. The packages are alleged to contain nearly 600 grams of what is believed to be
heroin. She was charged with importing a marketable quantity of a border controlled drug.
