Two Mexican Nationals arrested with over 3 pounds of methamphetamine

On June 29, 2007, members of the HIDTA (High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area) Task Force arrested two men and seized three (3) pounds (lbs.) and one ounce of methamphetamine (ICE), a 1999 Ford Expedition, and $491.00 in U.S. currency. Detectives arranged with a Mexican National DTO (Drug Trafficking Organization) in Ocala, Florida for the delivery of three pounds of ICE to Polk County. After initially resisting on the basis that Polk County was "too hot" (referring to the presence of law enforcement), two suspects arrived at the Days Inn Motel on Park Rd. in Plant City at approximately 2 p.m. on June 29, 2007. HIDTA task force members, together with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, established surveillance at the motel. The suspects agreed to meet in Bartow, after two hours of negotiations.

Detectives stopped two vehicles on the Polk Parkway at the U.S. Highway 98 overpass in a Carroll Doctrine (doctrine established in Carroll v. United States, 1925, which establishes the admissibility of evidence recovered in a warrantless search of an automobile traffic stop) stop. One of the vehicles contained 1,375.2 grams of methamphetamine (which is equal to three pounds, one ounce), valued at $60,000 wholesale. Detectives interviewed both suspects, and responded to the hotel in Plant City, but did not locate any additional suspects. The two suspects were determined to be legal resident aliens from Mexico. Their names and charges are as follows:

Fredy Luevano Jaimes, D.O.B. 4-24-79, of 432 Allen Road, Clayton, N.C.
Charges: Conspiracy to Traffic in Methamphetamine (over 400 grams)

Miguel Angel Luevano-Valle, D.O.B. 3-30-70 of 324 Dacian Road, Apt. #3, Raleigh, N.C.
Charges: Trafficking in Methamphetamine (over 400 grams) Conspiracy to Traffic in Methamphetamine.
