310 pounds of marijuana and $350,000 seized, one person arrested

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott announced today the seizure of 300 pounds of marijuana and $ 350,000. Sheriff Lott stated that narcotics agents from the Richland County Sheriff's Department received a tip from the community that a man by the name of Washington would be delivering a large sum of marijuana to an address in Richland County -- the tipster described the suspect and the vehicle he would be driving. Sheriff Lott stated that narcotics agents set up surveillance and located the vehicle and suspect on Two Notch Road and subsequently located 10 pounds of marijuana inside Willie Washington's (DOB 10-20-77 of 2926 Truman Street, Columbia, SC) car. A canine alerted to the vehicle that Washington was in. The Sheriff added that narcotics agents continued their investigation and found that Washington had 300 pounds of marijuana scattered all over his home and possessed $350,000 inside the residence.

A money counting machine was also found in the residence, but no guns were found.

Willie Washington was booked into the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center on September 13, 2007 where he is awaiting a bond hearing.
