9 pounds of heroin seized at Greyhound Bus Station, 3 subjects arrested

On November 30th, 2007 at 11:30 p.m. Arizona Department of Public Safety Detectives working with a multi-agency task force arrested two suspects at the Greyhound Bus Station located at the Circle K convenience store in Holbrook, AZ. The arrests were made after detectives discovered that the two suspects were concealing 6 pounds of heroin in their shoes. After being arrested, the suspects provided information that resulted in the arrest of another suspect in Gallup, New Mexico who was found with 3 pounds of heroin.

The series of events that led the DPS detectives and the task force officers to discover the heroin began when a Greyhound Bus driver informed the Holbrook Police Department that there was a strong odor of marijuana coming from the baggage compartment of the bus he was driving. With the help of a police canine, two cardboard boxes were found in the luggage compartment of the bus. The boxes contained 6 five gallon plastic paint buckets which contained 10 pounds each of marijuana. While interviewing passengers in an attempt to locate a possible owner of the boxes, detectives made contact with two men later discovered to have the 6 pounds of heroin concealed in their shoes. During the interview the suspects told police about another suspect who was riding the bus and concealing heroin. Gallup, New Mexico police found the heroin and arrested the other suspect. The sixty pounds of marijuana discovered in the bus was not related to the three men arrested for carrying the heroin.

Arnulfo Duarte Campas (34 years old), Luis E. Tejada-Velazquez (21 years old) and Arnulfo Duarte Najera (57 years old) were all arrested. All three men are from San Luis, Arizona.
