Anonymous tip leads to seizure of 968 pounds of marijuana
Border Patrol Agents assigned to the Naco Border
Patrol Station seized more than 900 pounds of marijuana in Palominas, Arizona.
Yesterday, Dec. 16th, the Naco Border Patrol
Station received an anonymous call advising that a brown Chevy Suburban was being loaded with marijuana south
of Smith Avenue. Agents responded to the location and observed a vehicle matching the description given,
traveling north. Upon seeing the agents in the area, the driver immediately performed a u-turn, and drove
back southbound in an attempt to get away. The agents followed the vehicle and about a mile later the
Suburban stopped and two individuals jumped out, absconding into Mexico.
Inside the abandoned Suburban, Border Patrol agents
discovered 45 bundles of marijuana. The total weight of the marijuana seized was 968 pounds with an estimated
street value of over $871,000.
Over the past two months the Tucson Sector Border
Patrol has seized over 156,000 pounds of marijuana.
