DEA's "Operation Xcellerator" targets the Sinaloa Cartel
On February 25, 2009 the DEA announced the arrest
of over 750 individuals on drug related charges and the seizure of more than 59 million dollars in drug money
aswell as the seizure of more than 23 tons of narcotics. On the 25th of February alone 52 individuals were
arrested as part of "Operation Xcellerator" which mainly targeted the Sinaloa Cartel. The individuals were
arrested in different areas like California, Minnesota and Maryland. The Sinaloa Cartel is responsible for
brings in tons of amounts of drugs such as marijuana and cocaine from Mexico into the US. They are also
believed to responsible for laundering millions of dollars made from illegal drug
trafficking.
"Operation Xcellerator" in the last 21 months has
led to the arrest of 755 individuals, the seizure of more than 12,000 kilograms of cocaine, 16,000 pounds of
marijuana, more than 8 kilos of heroin, 1,200 pounds of methamphetamine and over 1.3 million pills of
Ecstasy. Also seized are 59.1 million US dollars, 3 aircrafts, 3 maritime vessels and 169
weapons.
