Arizona Border Partol Agents found 3,146 lbs of marijuana in abandoned
vehicles
U.S. Border Patrol agents from the Yuma Station
apprehended two vehicles and seized 3,146 pounds of marijuana.
On April 5, 2009, Border Patrol agents discovered a
section of the International Boundary fence was cut near Avenue 8E. Two vehicles appeared to have entered the
United States and headed north through the desert.
After tracking the vehicles about 10 miles, Border
Patrol agents discovered an abandoned 2008 GMC Sierra containing several plastic-wrapped bundles of marijuana
inside the cab and bed. The occupants of the vehicle seemed to have been picked up by another
vehicle.
Later, agents discovered about one mile west of the
first vehicle an abandoned 2003 Chevy Silverado containing more marijuana. Agents also located four sets of
footprints that led away from the vehicle back into Mexico.
The GMC Sierra had been reported stolen out of
Yuma, Arizona, and the Chevy Silverado were turned over to the Arizona Department of Public
Safety.
The 196 bundles of marijuana were turned over to
the Drug Enforcement Agency.
