46 Pounds of Marijuana found hidden in the bumbers of a Monte Carlo

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Brownsville and Matamoros International Bridge found more than 46 pounds of marijuana hidden in the bumpers of a Chevrolet Monte Carlo; one U.S. citizen was arrested. On April 16, 2009 at the Brownsville and Matamoros International Bridge, CBP officers encountered a green 1997 Chevrolet Monte Carlo driven by Jesus Barajas, a 28-year-old U.S. citizen and resident of Brownsville, Texas. Jesus Barajas was referred for an intensive secondary inspection. "Rooster," a narcotic detector dog, alerted officers to the odor of narcotics emanating from the Chevrolet. CBP officers' examination revealed metal containers concealed within the bumpers of the Chevrolet. CBP officers discovered 31 packages hidden in the bumpers with a combined weight of more than 46 pounds of marijuana. The driver was arrested by CBP officers and turned over to the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement special agents who investigated the seizure and will process the driver on federal drug charges.
