Officers seize 25 pounds of MDMA at the Canada - U.S border
U.S. Customs and Border Protection today announced
the seizure of approximately 25 pounds of methylene-dioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), better known as the
club-drug Ecstasy. The seizure resulted in the arrest of a Canadian citizen in the smuggling
attempt.
On April 4, CBP officers encountered
Patrice Bolduc, a 27-year-old Canadian citizen from Laval, Quebec, as he applied for
admission into the U.S at the Champlain port of entry. Bolduc was sent for a secondary inspection and
verification of his immigration status.During the inspection of Bolduc's SUV, a Border Patrol narcotics
detector dog was utilized, which demonstrated a positive alert to the rear undercarriage of the vehicle. CBP
officers then used gamma-ray technology to generate a high-resolution image of the vehicle, which revealed an
anomaly in the spare tire located under the rear cargo compartment.
The tire was removed revealing six packages wrapped
in duct tape. The packages, totaling 25 pounds, were found to contain approximately 30,000 white tablets,
which later field tested positive for the properties of Ecstasy.
Bolduc was arrested on federal charges of
importation and possession with the intent to distribute a controlled substance. He was turned over to agents
from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement for further investigation and prosecution by the U.S.
Attorney's Office for the Northern District of New York.
