officers siezed $30,000 U.S Dollars
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers and
Border Patrol agents working outbound enforcement operations at the Veterans' International Bridge southbound
lanes seized over $30,000 in undeclared U.S. currency.
On May 7, 2009 CBP officers and Border Patrol
agents working outbound enforcement operations at the Veterans' International Bridge came in contact with a
green southbound 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe as it attempted to leave the United States to enter Mexico. After a
routine examination, the vehicle, driver and passengers were referred to secondary intensive examination. CBP
officers and Border Patrol agents noted discrepancies to the traveler's itinerary. A search of the driver and
his five passengers resulted in the discovery that U.S. currency belonging to the driver had been divided
among all six occupants of the vehicle. The driver, a 29-year-old, Mexican citizen and his five passengers
were not immediately arrested. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents continue to investigate this
failed smuggling attempt. The U.S. currency was seized by CBP officers and Border Patrol
agents.
