CBP Officers seize 146 pounds of marijuana hidden with a vehicles' roof
On June 4, 2009 at the Brownsville and Matamoros
International Bridge, CBP officers came in contact with a green 1998 Ford Econoline Van driven by a
48-year-old Mexican citizen and resident of Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico. A primary inspection revealed
discrepancies to the roof of the Ford, the driver was referred for an intensive secondary
examination.
"Sunny", a narcotic detector dog, was used
and further confirmed officer's suspicions by alerting officers to the odor of narcotics emanating from the
vehicle. In further examination of the roof CBP officers' discovered bundles hidden within the roof
underlining of the van. CBP officers removed 58 packages with a combined total weight of almost 146 pounds of
marijuana.
There was no immediate arrest but U.S. Immigration
and Customs Enforcement special agents continued to investigate this
seizure.
