2,208 lbs of Marijuana were found in a hidden wall of a Tractor-Trailer

On August 7, 2009, CBP officers working at the Pharr Commercial Cargo Facility came in contact with an empty, Mexican registered, northbound tractor-trailer unit. After the initial primary inspection, the male driver, driving a 1981 Dina tractor and pulling an empty 1997 Utility trailer were all referred to secondary for an intensive examination. In secondary, the tractor-trailer unit was referred for a non-intrusive image scan. X-ray images revealed anomalies within the trailer's front wall. "Oslo," a narcotic detector dog, alerted officers to the presence of narcotic odors coming from the trailer's front wall area.

While conducting an intensive examination of the trailer, officers found a false front wall. Officers removed 97 packages of marijuana weighing 2,208 pounds that were found hidden within the false wall. The driver, a 47-year-old Mexican citizen from Ciudad Valle Hermoso, Tamaulipas, Mexico was not immediately arrested but U. S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement special agents continue to investigate this failed smuggling attempt. CBP officers seized the marijuana and the tractor-trailer unit.
