Adam Amezcua Contreras of the Amezcua Contreras Cartel charged

The Attorney General's office in Mexico City announced on May 3 of 2001, of the charges placed on Adam Amezcua Contreras for using large sums of money and goods for criminal activities. He was transferred to the Puente Grande prison in the Mexican State of Jalisco. Adam Amezcua Contreras was arrested on San Miguel Street in Zapopan, Jalisco. He was in charge of directing Methamphetamine labs and also responsible for transporting ephedrine throughout Mexico. After his brothers José de Jesús and Luis Ignacio along with Jaime Arturo Landino Avila "El Ojon" it was revealed that Amezcua Contreras was one of the leaders of the Amezcua Contreras Organization.

An investigation reviled that the cartel had the Ephedrine imported from Europe, India and Pakistan where it arrived at either the ports of Veracruz, Manzanillo or Colima. From there it was transported to laboratories in Colima or Jalisco to process it into methamphetamine and then transported to Tijuana, Baja California to be smuggled into the United States for sale and distribution.

Amezcua Contreras served time from 1993 to 1995 in California for trafficking methamphetamines. On November 11, 1997 he was arrested by the Mexican Army after they stopped his vehicle and the found a Mark Colt firearm. He served one year six months in a prison in Colima for carrying firearms in Mexico.
