Kentucky Vehicle Enforcement seize $386,000 during 18 wheeler inspection
Kentucky Vehicle Enforcement (KVE) officers recently confiscated
more than $380,000 from a stopped a tractor-trailer at a weigh
station on I-65 in Simpson County. The driver was stopped for a
random safety inspection when KVE officers detected the smell of
alcohol on the driver’s breath.

Further investigation from a KVE K-9 led officers to request a search
warrant. While searching the tractor trailer, Officer’s Joey Conn,
Stephen Burke and Randall Honeycutt uncovered a passenger’s
side storage box of the vehicle containing over $386,000 in U.S.
currency.

“This seizure shows just how valuable our Vehicle Enforcement
officers are,” said KVE Commissioner Greg Howard. “Our officers
understand the importance of highway safety, especially in
instances where drivers are potentially impaired.”

This is the fourth major cash seizure of the year for the Kentucky
Vehicle Enforcement, totaling close to $500,000.

“This is a great day for law enforcement and the work they do,” said
Lieutenant Governor Pence, secretary of the Justice and Public
Safety Cabinet. “Their efforts symbolize the dedication Kentucky has
to putting a stop to illegal activities throughout our Commonwealth. I
commend KVE on this important cash seizure.”
