Almost 12 million U.S. Dollars seized in the Manzanillo seaport in Mexico
On Thursday March 6, 2008 Mexican federal authorities at the
Manzanillo seaport seized 20 boxes filled with American dollars. The
total amount of money was $11,963,385. The denominations of the
dollars were of $10, $20, $50 and $100. About 80% of the money
was in 10 and 20 dollar bills. The boxes were in shipping containers
on a Liberian flagged ship that was destined for Panama. The
country of Panama with it's large "Panama Canal" is a major
trans-shipment point for drug traffickers in Colombia. Before
arriving in Manzanillo, the boxes of money originated from the
Mexican city of Toluca. The city of Toluca is located just west of
Mexico City.
