Juan Manuel Jurado Zarzoza aka "El Puma" of the Gulf Cartel was captured
On June 13, 2009 the Mexican Army in Cancun, Yucatan captured the
head of the Gulf Cartel in Cancun Juan Manuel Jurado Zarzoza aka "El Puma" along with three other members of the
Gulf Cartel. Jurado Zarzoza was in charge of the cartel in the area after on May 26 Felix Camacho Perez aka "El
Boti" was arrested. His duties included taking control of all the drug trade in the area, extortions, kidnappings
and charging local tourist businesses money for protection. He is also one of the individuals responsible for the
assassination of the retired general Mauro Enrique Tello Quiñones back in February of 09.
"El Puma" was arrested back in 2003 for robbing a jewelry store.
After his release he joined the Gulf Cartel that was then headed in the area by the now imprisoned Javier Diaz
Ramon aka "El Java Diaz". There he was in charge of small sales of drugs in the city.
At the time of his arrest the army confiscated 9 long range
rifles, 16 kilograms of cocaine, 99 pounds of marijuana and four vehicles. The army turned the items and suspect
over to the Division of Investigations Specializing in Organized Crime (SIEDO) for further
processing.
