Customs finds 2,287 pounds of marijuana hidden within load of potatoes
U.S. Customs and Border Protection Border Patrol agents
intercepted more than one ton of marijuana at the Falfurrias. Texas
Border Patrol traffic Checkpoint Friday. The contraband has an
estimated value of over $1.8 million.

The seizure occurred when agents assigned to the checkpoint
observed a tractor-trailer enter the primary inspection area. While
the primary agent performed an immigration check on the driver, a
CBP Border Patrol canine alerted to the trailer area and the driver
was directed to the secondary inspection area.

A search of the trailer revealed 100 bundles of marijuana, weighing
2,287 pounds, concealed in a load of potatoes. The load of
marijuana is worth $1,829,600. The driver, a United States citizen
from Houston, was subsequently arrested.

The driver, vehicle, and marijuana were turned over to Immigration
and Customs Enforcement for further investigation.
