State Troopers seize 5 pounds of Meth on Interstate 29
On January 28, 2007, a member of Troop H stopped a southbound
1998 Dodge Caravan on Interstate 29 just north of St. Joseph in
Andrew County for driving 92 miles per hour. After speaking to the
driver, the trooper became suspicious of his behavior and asked to
search the vehicle. He consented to the search and troopers found
2 pounds of methamphetamine hidden in the left rear quarter panel
of the vehicle and a small amount of cocaine on his person.
An additional 3 pounds of the drug was located in a false
compartment in the vehicle’s firewall during a second search that
was conducted at Troop H. The second compartment was located
after “Cijo”, the Troop H canine made a positive response to the
vehicle’s firewall area.
The driver was identified as Eligio Tamayo, age 22 of Omaha, NE.
Mr. Tamayo is charged with drug trafficking in the first degree
(felony), possession of cocaine (felony), violation of United States
immigration laws, speeding and no seat belt. He is currently being
held in the Andrew County Jail.
