Craig Morford, United States Attorney for the Middle District of
Tennessee, announced that William R. Jones of Atlanta, Georgia
was sentenced by United Sates District Judge William Haynes, to 22
years in prison for conspiring to distribute methamphetamine.

The investigation of Jones started on September 20, 2005, after
deputies with the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department obtained a
state search warrant for the residence of James McCloud located at
557 South Walnut, Cookeville, Tennessee. Agents executed the
warrant and recovered one ounce of methamphetamine and
approximately $2,702.00 in United States currency in a shoe box in
McCloud's bedroom. A small bag of methamphetamine was located
on the kitchen table of the residence. McCloud indicated that he had
received the meth from Linda Bussard.

On September 21, 2005, law enforcement agents traveled to
Bussard's residence located at 1042 Maple Branch Road, Glade
Creek, Tennessee and obtained consent to search Bussard’s
residence. A search of the residence recovered approximately one
and one half pounds of methamphetamine, the majority of which was
at least 98% pure. Agents also recovered $40,000 in currency,
scales, three loaded handguns, and one unloaded shotgun.

Bussard indicated that her supplier was Jones who was located in
Atlanta, Georgia. Bussard stated that since May of 2005, she was
regularly traveling to Atlanta, Georgia to obtain large quantities of
methamphetamine from Jones and his associates. The investigation
revealed that since May 2005, Bussard obtained six to seven
pounds of methamphetamine from Jones and his associates. Jones
was arrested after agreeing to bringing one pound of
methamphetamine to Bussard in Nashville, Tennessee. Bussard is
awaiting sentencing.

United States Attorney Morford praised the coordinated efforts of
Putnam County Sheriff's Department, DEA and ATF, in working up
the chain from a small time player to a major out of state distributor,
noting that "Lengthy sentences like the ones handed down in this
case should put all drug dealers on notice that the possession and
distribution of methamphetamine in this district will result in very
serious consequences."

The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration,
the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, and the
Putnam County Sheriff’s Department.

Assistant United States Attorney Paul M. O’Brien prosecuted the
case.
