Spain and Ecuador seize more than 5 tons of cocaine off the coast of Ecuador

On May 11, 2017, Spanish and Ecuadorian authorities annouced the seizure of a ship that contained a reported 5,529 kilos of cocaine bricks.  The ship was stopped off the coast of Santa Elena which is just west of Guayaquil, Ecuador.  The joint effort by Ecuador and Spain resulted in 24 subjects being detained.  The ship was destined for Spain and was going to go through the Panama Canal.  The seizure and enforcement action was announced by Diego Fuentes Acosta from Ecuador's Deputy Minister of Public Security Diego Fuentes Acosta and Spain's Juan Ignacio Zoido who is the minister of the Interior and Deputy for Seville, Spain.
