On Tuesday, September 9, 2014, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Port of Douglas in Arizona referred a Ford SUV for further inspection.
With the assistance of a drug detection canine, officers located 356 packages of marijuana concealed within the vehicle’s interior and spare tire. This find weighed in at more than 355 pounds, with an estimated street value of $178,000.
The 19-year-old female driver was arrested and turned over to Homeland Security Investigations.
Later that same day, officers also selected a KIA sedan for further inspection.
A pursuant canine sniff yielded a positive alert for the presence of narcotics with the vehicle’s interior. Officer conducted a thorough search of the KIA and discovered 101 packages of marijuana spread under the vehicle’s front hood, within a spare tire, and throughout the interior. This find weighed in at almost 138 pounds, with an estimated street valued of close to $69,000.
The 21-year-old male driver was taken into custody and handed over to Homeland Security Investigations. His vehicle and marijuana were seized.
