100 Pounds of Khat and Steroids Seized in Philadelphia, PAPosted on April 12, 2014
U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officers at the Philadelphia International Airport intercepted two parcels labeled as “topographical drawings.” The parcels were x-rayed and each found to contain four small boxes.
Upon further search, the individual boxes were each discovered to contain the schedule I narcotic khat, a green, leafy plant chewed for its stimulant effect. The boxes weighed in at 100 pounds, with an estimated street value of $30,000.
On Tuesday, April 1, 2014, officers also located 200 tablets each of the schedule III anabolic steroids Methyl-1-Testosterone and Oxymetholone. The tablets were located in parcels labeled as “cosmetics.” They were being shipped to Illinois.
